Dorian Bratolic – The Driving Force Behind Three Bands
Dorian Bratolic is a drummer whose passion for rhythm, energy and authentic sound has made him an important force in the Dutch and international music scene. As the drummer of the Downbeat Detonators, as well as Madless and the Phoenixcity Retaliators, Dorian demonstrates his versatility across different musical styles while always maintaining his own powerful and recognizable approach to drumming.
With the Downbeat Detonators, Dorian is part of a band dedicated to the timeless sounds of Jamaican ska, rocksteady and early reggae. The group combines big horn sections, infectious organ grooves, rich vocal harmonies and a strong rhythm section to recreate the spirit and energy of Jamaica’s golden musical era. In this setting, Dorian’s drumming provides the foundation that keeps the music moving. His playing combines precision with feel, creating the steady, danceable grooves that are essential to ska and rocksteady.
But Dorian’s musical journey does not stop there. As the drummer of Madless and the Phoenixcity Retaliators, he brings that same dedication and musical instinct to different environments. Moving between bands requires adaptability, concentration and a deep understanding of rhythm, and Dorian has developed the ability to adjust his playing to the character and energy of each project.
For Dorian, drumming is more than simply keeping time. It is about creating movement, atmosphere and interaction with the other musicians. Whether playing a tightly arranged ska groove, an energetic live performance or a more aggressive musical setting, he approaches every show with commitment and enthusiasm.
Being active in three bands is a testament to his passion for music and his versatility as a musician. Dorian Bratolic is not just sitting behind the drums — he is helping drive each band forward, one beat at a time.
